Searches are word-oriented. You cannot search for phrases, except by
searching for all words in the phrase. |

Searches are not case-sensitive. |

Words should be entered without quotes. |

You may use logical connectives—or, and, and not. |
|
Lacking an explicit connective, or is implied between words.
Searching for either computer monitor or computer or monitor
will identify pages containing either the word “computer,” the word
“monitor,” or both. |

Searching for computer and monitor will identify only pages
containing both “computer” and “monitor”. |
|
Depending upon context, not can mean “not” or “and not.”
Searching for not monitor will identify pages that do not contain
“monitor.” Searching for computer not monitor will identify pages
that contain the word “computer” and do not contain the word
“monitor.” |

The asterisk can be used to find words with a particular prefix. Searching
for comp* will find pages containing “computer,” “comps,”
“computation,” etc. |

Parentheses can be used to force a particular interpretation. Searching
for (computer not monitor) or disk will identify pages containing
“disk,” in addition to pages that contain “computer,” but not
“monitor.” |
