Dashboard

by Lionel E. Deimel

I’m a fine chap, really—

Friendly, a good conversationalist,

Articulate, but not garrulous.

When I start the engine,

Why does my car confront me

And call me “Airbag”?

Newer cars have a variety of warning lights, many of which, if all systems are nominal, are illuminated only when the vehicle is started. One of these indicators may show that airbags are working properly. That fact provided the basis for this modest poem.

I actually don’t know when I wrote this. I misplaced it and found it much later, sometime in 2022.
