Ruth Gledhill recently made public letters from Rowan Williams from when he was Archbishop of Wales. The correspondence revealed that, after much study, Williams concluded that the Bible does not refer to the kind of homosexual relationships widely seen as acceptable by Episcopalians. Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams has never repudiated his views on homosexuality, though he has said that he would put them aside for the sake of the Anglican Communion.

Last week, Williams issued an explanation of his position regarding the views expressed in the letters. My latest blog post, “Mistaken Primate,” analyzes his two-paragraph statement and concludes that the Archbishop of Canterbury is confused. You can read my analysis at http://deimel.org/commentary/blogger/2008/08/mistaken-primate.htm.

If you never got around to reading it, let me again urge you to read “Let’s Get It Over With” at http://deimel.org/commentary/blogger/2008/08/lets-get-it-over-with.htm. This post is an argument for bishops’ consenting to the deposition of Bishop Robert Duncan at the September House of Bishops meeting.

Best regards,
